Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening process is also called 'Bleaching'. It is a process that allows the teeth to become lighter than their existing tone without damaging their natural structure. The whitening process can be applied to almost everyone. If the patient has a filling on the surface of the front tooth area, the whitening process will only whiten the tooth enamel, but the filling will remain the same color. In these cases, it would be appropriate for the physician to perform a preliminary examination.

Teeth whitening is a procedure that can be performed on healthy and natural teeth. There are two types of bleaching: home type and ın-office type.

In home bleaching, the patient's measurements are taken and thin plates are prepared. Low concentration peroxide gels are placed inside these plates. It is tried to keep the plaques in the mouth during the night. It is applied for 1 week. It is requested to stay away from colored liquids and cigarettes for a few days after the application period.

Another type of whitening is in-office bleaching. Again, in a mouth of healthy teeth, a gingival barrier is applied to protect the gums. Then gels containing high peroxide are applied on the teeth and whitening is performed. This process is done in 2-3 sessions. Each session is 15 minutes. Colored liquids and dyed tobacco such as cigarettes are avoided for 3-4 days.

Teeth whitening process: the processing time is 45 minutes and consists of 3 stages. Each session is 15 minutes. A retractor, that is, an apparatus to keep the mouth open, is placed in the mouth. To protect the gums, the gums are covered with a barrier. Teeth whitening gel is applied to the tooth surfaces, and 15-minute sessions are started with laser beam. The gel is cleansed and renewed with each session. After 45 minutes, the whitening gel on the teeth is cleaned, the gum barriers are removed and the treatment is terminated.

After care of teeth whitening (bleaching): smoking, tea, coffee, products containing dark colored foods (sauces, acidic drinks, sauced foods, etc.), colored foods such as red wine should not be consumed. If these are used, stains may occur on the tooth enamel.
